Not sure on interchangability, but it's located under the drivers side fender well. There is a big harness coming out of it and going over the drivers side valve cover. If you are having problems, look at this harness- it has a tendency to rub on the valve cover and ground out there. There are a lot of IDM's on ebay I think because people get an IDM code and think thats the problem.

No, that is your ECM. If you were to install a chip, that's the box you'd be looking for. To get to the IDM, you actually have to remove the inner fender well lining. There should be a few fasteners holding it on, that you can get to - you just have to squeeze yourself between the tire and the fender.
