Hi...new here, looking for some info. I have an 01 Expedition that I recently purchased. I discovered that while driving, usually hwy speeds, when it shifts there is a vibration coming from the rear end? Usually only lasts for a second or two them stops, but it is pretty loud. I talked to the dealer and they said to try some friction lube, but I would like to get some second opinions. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Had a vibration when I would start from a complete stop. It would only last a short time and seem to go away. Took it to the dealer and they ended up replacing the "Clutch's" in the differential. Didn't know that they were in there. Oh, mine is a '02 4x4 5.4 EB model.
May want to ask about it, they told me that it would have gotten worse and possibly failed.
I have a 99 eb expo with 50,000 miles on it and I have the same problem, get a vibration when the trans shifts on the highway,it sounds and feels like I am driving over rumple bumps on the side of the highway. I changed the rear oil and still the same problem. A 4x4 mechanic said that it could be a bad speed sensor in the transfercase. I am not sure what to do.... anyone else have a solution thanks
I don't have a soluition, but I have the same problem !!! Have heard every thing from bad high presure valve in tranny , to rearend cluches. My expy is AWD and I think it feels like the transfer case (Is your truck AWD/4x4 or 2x4/4x4 ?).
My vibration was definitely in the differential and the dealer's shop replaced the rear end clutch's. Not chep either. Have had no problems since. It is a 2002 EB 5.4 4x4 AWD
I had the same shutter problem from a dead start. I replaced the diff oil in front and back (4x4) and it took a little while for it to go away. It is not completely gone. I am thinking of switching over to a full syn for the transmission and diffs. I think that will help greatly.

please do it. i didn't have aenough dough for royal purple transmisson fluid but i did get mobil 1 sythetic transmssion fluid. the rest rear end transfer case and front axle have royal purple synthetic fluid.
Had the same problem and I put Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil and friction modifier in the rear end and it went away on the first drive following the fluid change.
