me again, with another question- when it rains heavy or as the case is today, snowing with a couple inches accumulated on the truck, slowly melting - I've noticed two leaks in my interior, very small and slow, but leaks none the less, one runs down the new firewall cover I put in a few months back. I had previously stripped the interior, heater and controls, dashpad , everything except the wiper motor and control arms, repaired some rust in floor board, new carpet and clutch rod boot, door sill plates, all window and door rubber, and even used silicone in the joint where the floor pan meets the firewall, it leaked when I got it. leaks are nothing compared to before. the other leak appears to be coming from the driver's side manual vent by the emergency brake(actually dripping from the vent). I am guessing they originate somewhere in the hood cowl where the wiper arms come out but how on earth can you get in there to seal it, I've since installed a rubber floor mat over my carpet so that catches any water that might accumulate, also in redoing the interior I replaced the vent gaskets as well. I can live with the leaks as little as they are just wondered if anyone had encountered the same problem. Thanks
My 71 does the same thing. Mine has a small rust through underneath the wiper pivot inside cowl. I used some rust preventer and attached a piece of tygon tubing to a tube of silicon caulk. Slid it between ribs of cowl and caulked it as good as I could. Did'nt get it all but slowed it down a good bit.

replaced the wiper seals today, the first one was really pretty easy, just removed the glove box liner and reached right in, 10 minutes later it was done. the driver side was a different story got the wiper control loose mithout too much trouble, after removing the instrument cluster, but couldn't get enough clearance to get the old gasket off and the new on. ended up having to loosen the wiper motor bracket completely and pull the whole assembly down before I could get the wiper control arm free of the cowl. but it's done, and hopefully my leaks are too.
