Post Brake Diversion Valve

67 F-100 Camper Special

I have a brake diversion valve in my brake line. I've never used one before. It has a adjustment **** on it. Is there a "correct" adjustment? My truck does not carry a camper.

Is it permissable to insert photos on the message board?

I'mm thinking you mean " proportioning valve".

Being adjustable I've never been around one.
Only the factory preset ones.


Photo's are allowed but, They have to be Sized accordingly before
up-loaded to Not USE UP valuable web space.

Brake Diversion Valve

Sounds like you have a brake proportioning valve installed. If so, it is used to proportion the amount of volume to the individual brake systems. I used one when I installed 4 way discs on my F100, since the originals required different brake fluid volumes and pressures than the 4 way discs.

I'm not sure why anyone would install one on a truck with disc front brakes and drum rears, or for that matter, drums all the way around. Usually you see a factory installed proportioning block bolted to the frame right under the brake cylinder. Is the original there also? It could be that it was damaged then replaced later by the adjustable valve.

I calibrated mine by doing a very simple test. I took the vehicle out on the road, slammed on the brakes, and checked to see which axle skidded first. I then adjusted the valve until the front and rear brakes all carry a balanced amount of the stopping load.

Does it brake okay? If so, i'd leave it alone and not monkey with the balance of adjustment.

Yea, that's it, "proportioning valve." I thought "diversion" sounded a little weird. Anyhow, it's the only one under there so it must be a replacement. My front and rear end are 1977 (disc brakes). I like the scientific approach - mash the pedal and start skiddin! Actually, it brakes OK but it seems to me that I have to apply too much pressure so maybe some adjustment of the proportioning valve will help.

That's the reason for the aftermarket P Valve.
Rear Discs.
Th=e way they are supposed to be set up is:
The rears are to come on *Just Before* the fronts.
p.s. Under normal foot power> No Skidding<

Brake Diversion Valve

My truck has 4 way discs, and I also installed a brake booster. Before installing the proportioning valve, it was the poorest stopping vehicle I've ever had. AFter the valve, it has the best brakes of anything i've ever driven, including my 98 ranger and 97 powerstroke.

The power brake booster made a gigantic differnce.
