I bought a super duty(2000 F 350, 7.3L, Crew cab, Lariat , 36 K miles only) last week( see pictures in my gallery) and I have few questions regarding the same, pardon me if I mix up different issues into this one thread;
1) I added half a liter of “Diesel Kleen” for 38 gallon fill up. But I see no significant mileage improvement. I averaged around 17 to 18 MPG last night (highway). Last week I averaged the same, although the “lie –o meter” says I get 22 MPG.
2) The horn is not working; I believe the previous owner took off the fuse from the fuse box for some reason. What capacity fuse should I be putting (it just burnt out two 15 A fuse), is 30 A fuse good or will it burn the wires?
3) I ‘am looking at buying a Tanneau cover (hard top fiber glass), how much would it cost? (FYI, I spoke to a local dealer and he said it is $950, I think it is expensive)
4) I ‘am looking at buying a heat extractor hood. Where can I find it (One of the member here has it and he said it cost around $688)?
My horn (2000 PS SD) started coming on with key off last winter...removed the fuse (lost cruise control as well).
Recently had issue where trans would not go into OD. Folks here guided me to wires out of the shifter in the column....sure enough broken. Repaired and trans issue resolved. Reinstalled horn fuse and so far no problem. Might check out my post on the trans problem for more details...for got the title, but if you search this forum for Trans OD you should get it. Easy repair.
For your horn problem check the owners manual or the fuse pocket, it should tell you what amp fuse to use. If it still blows the fue I would check out mackatack's thread because if you are blowing fuses you got a wiring problem. Putting in a higher amp fuse will not solve your problem and in fact cause all kinds of problems from melting wires to starting your truck on fire!
Some people don't see the mileage improvement with the Diesel Kleen and some do. I don't know if they are basing it on the lie-o-meter or not. I am using the Diesel Kleen for peace of mind and if I get better MPG and a cleaner engine, great!

I found mackatack's thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=493639 But still does not answer my issue of horn or does it? Those three wires that is talked about does not mention anything about horn or its Amp. Also the Cruise control is not working and I understand Horn and CC are related to the fuse.
Vijay, check your Owners Manual - it will list the fuse number, size, location, etc. According to a 2000 manual it's fuse #12, 15amp. But yours is blowing so perhaps there is a short somewhere. It seems that in the underhood power distribution box, there's a relay (#3 relay) which also is for the horn.
If your cruise control is also not working... it may be the Variable Speed Sensor (VSS) which is a $25 or so part that is located on the rear differential housing, and takes a 10 or 8mm socket to replace. Might be worth trying a new one.
Don't put 30A fuses for a 15A system. Can burn up all kinds of things. I got first hand experience of this at work when the engineers put too big of a circuit breaker in the system and a short not only burned an 8 guage wire up but an 6 inch wire bundle. As for a tonneu cover, I bought and Access Cover off of E-Bay for around $400 and just love. It gives be the option to have it rolled up or rolled out. Good quality. They have a website.

Do you happen to know how much the hard top fiber glass tonneu cover cost? I' am looking at hard top in particular. A local dealer here is asking $950(plus three weeks time), If that is how much it costs , I can go for a camper shell with few hundred $$ more .
horn and cruise control can be symptoms of the watchspring or wiring under the drivers side airbag, especially if you are NOT throwing SES lights or associated codes. Mine used to honk turning right only on cold mornings. turned out to be a crimped wire.
Hard tonneau covers are indeed expensive. You have to check with various dealers to know the pricing, bu they run around $800-1000 or so. Check out LEER and ARE, as they're both popular brands. I think a full cap is better, myself. Don't see any purpose for a tonneau unless you like limiting the space you have in their, because you want to keep it looking truck-ish in it's shape. A cap costs a bit more, but you get so much more room and flexibility in your bed with the higher roof.
Here at ShurCo, we manufacture the soft tonneau covers. We don't have any of the hard covers, but our cover is very durable. You can go to our webside truxedo.com and click on the gallery and then on durabilty video and you can see someone jumping on our cover. The Truxedo Lo Profile is our most popular cover and it lists for around $499. It has the lifetime warranty. It's easy to roll up if you want to haul something that sits higher than the bed sides. Which makes it more convenient than the hard covers. And cheaper.

ryaneverk2, Thanks for your input. Is there a way to find out if the relay #3 for horn under the hood is good or bad or is it valid question at all( do I need to use electrical tester for this)? I have gut feeling that I have to have a wiring expert take a look at my truck since the navigation system (alpine CVA 1005) is not coming up from last Sunday, It was fine until then. The music system and DVD/TV works fine though.
I will replace the VSS this weekend and let you guys know about it if everything is back in order.<O></O>
I honestly don't really know how to test a relay. I suppose take it out, apply 12 V and make sure it's grounded, and see if you hear the contacts click shut. Might be best to have whoever you were thinking of take a look at it. May be a short somewhere if it's blowing the fuse.
