tweeters

I just put a system in my truck...new head unit...new 6x8s and two 10s. The bass sounds good - but the mids still seem pretty quiet. What have you guys done to improve this. Maybe add some tweeters by the mirror covers? I have a 04 scab. Thanks.

You should have a space just for tweeters in your door just above the armrest behind the silver grilles.

unless you have the Audiophile system in your truck there won't be any speakers in the holes. In this case go get yourself a set of component front speakers and install them. The sound is like night and day. Crutchfield.com has some good deals on them. take a look at the Infinity Kappas and the Polk audio's. Both sound great!

Tweeter

I put in infinities in and the tweets got smashed in by the removable grill.....I have taken evertying off the front of the tweets to get them to fit but it doestn work. How are you all holding the tweets in that cutout without the grills smashing them?

Tom, are you using the mounts that came with the infinities? If so, you might have to fabricate some plates to mount them in so they sit flush. I had the Infinity's in my Expedition and surface mounted them to the sail panel above the door panel. The F-150 has a clearance limitation because of the grilles. Try flush mounting them or back mount them. You might have to make some little clips or silicone them on place.

I mounted Infinity Kapa series with seperate crossover in the front doors, the mountng configuration will allow you to mount either for 5x7 or 6x8's no modification or plates necessary. The back doors got 5x7/6x8 Polks no modification or plates needed. Made a big difference in sound quality.
The Inifinity Kappa series along with outside crossover, which I velcroed in the arm rest, has a turnable tweeter mounted center cone that allows you to direct the tweeter to the listener.

Hey Kevin, I mounted those same speakers in the rear doors of my Screw. I installed JL Audio 5x7 in the front doors. They sound great. I had originally planned on installing seperates in the front doors but I got the JL'l and the Kappas for nothing so.... What would you!

I want to go with Boston, but on Crutchfield I can't seem to find any 6x8s w/o an integrated tweeter. I have the audiophile so i'd like to swap out my mains and tweeters, and keep the components separated, as opposed to integrated.

I like Bostons too. Also take a look at Mb Quart. Never liked the Infinity or Polks. But, speakers are very individual as far as sound. People do not often hear the same. I would shop around and see what sounds best to you.
