Just got back from camping with an 8000 lb camper. The truck is an '04 F250 Super Duty with the 5.4 and 4.10's. Truck did ok but I really need to get more power for towing. Which programmer would be the best for this application, Thanks in advance.
If you plan on using regular fuel, Hypertech is one of the few programmers out there (that I've seen) that do a good of getting you power while using regular fuel. All the others require premium fuel and in some cases a few other mods. Check out the actual dyno chart here With a muffler and an intake, the engine will breath a little better and you'll get more out of it. Dualing out the exhaust system is generally not recommended because they are very sensitive. If you modify the pipes, sometimes you gain, lose in some areas, or lose altogether. Unless you spend about $1200 and get a full header and exhaust system, then you really don't notice that much of a gain. But for a mild, but potent tuner like the Hypertech, a muffler and intake will get the job done.
Your truck would use the Hypertech p/n 41026. It has the Dual Fuel feature (87/93 octane), it does the shift points, Shift firmness, Rev limiter, Top speed. Gives 33HP/55 Torque in the 87 octane tune and 48HP/61 Torque in the 93 octane tune.
