Hey folks I am hopefully getting a new vehicle soon....well new to me. I am considering a '03 Ranger Edge 4x4 ext. cab stepside 4.0L with 55,000 mi. and I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on what I should look at on the truck as far as signs of problems that might show when I go to check it out. The truck looks clean and well taken care of from the pictures on the net but we all know how pics on the net can be deceiving. Any info. will be greatly appreciated.
mmmmm, 4.0 sohc, yummy. Good engine, 4x4 is nice, extended cab...you'll like it. I wish i could tell you more, but i'm not sure what to look for on the newer trucks. Someone will be along to help you out. I wish i had one, thats all i can say.
Request to see the service records. Run a CarFax report. As far as mechanical problems on the 4.0L SOHC, it has not been in Rangers long enough for us to give an accurate diagnosis on common problems, but it seems as if there aren't any really common problems. Another place to check would be the Explorer board and ask them. It's been in Explorers since 1997 and Rangers since 2001 if I'm not mistaken.
Ok I just thought of something. I know I have had many car dealers offer a carfax when I start looking at a vehicle. Should I still pursue getting my own carfax even if they aleady have one and all the identification information checks out? My gut says yes but I thought I would ask.
I wouldn' think so. The dealer has much to looose it you show up with different carfax info on the same vehicle. Also Carfax has too much to loose to have two different reports, one for dealers and one for the public. The local TV news would love that story.
