See if you can turn the engine by hand now that it is in the vehicle before you go any further. If you can, then inspect the starter/flywheel teeth to see if there is too much damage for it to work.
Take a close look at all the battery cables. There are four counting the engine to chassis ground, neg battery cable, pos battery cable and starter cable from the solenoid. Make sure that they are all in good condition and clean all the ends and the surfaces that they contact. Coat the ends with a light coating of grease and snug them down.
Don't take this as an insult, (since I don't know you or how much experience you have) did you properly adjust the valves? If they aren't opening, that would create a situation like you are describing. Is there anything caught between the block and bellhousing causing the torque converter/trans to bind? If it's an automatic, is the torque converter seated in the trans pump all the way?
OK so I got side tracked and kinda forgot I posted this.Right after I posted it I droped the starter and noticed the starter gear was a little tweaked so I went to NAPA where I work(thank god I have 24 hour acces)and got a new starter threw it in and it turns over perfectley. Thanks for the replies,I hope to have it runnin this weekend.
