Hi, I'm new at this, I don't even know how to check if anyone responds to my question, yet. anyway, I was driving my 99 250 diesel down the highway and out of no where the truck started to slow down, It was idling but when I hit the pedal it was doing nothing (rpm stayed where they were), I crawled for 2 miles off the highway doing 5 to 10 MPH and hit a red light, once I hit the light, as soon as I stopped, the truck cut off, and that's it, it just cranks and cranks, it sounds like it want's to start, but no fuel (i'm guessing). could this be the Camshaft position sensor ????? I've read so many posting on this forum about trucks not running because of that sensor. I just hit 99,850 miles.
can someone Help?????...... that sensor is so expensive just to try it.
You can check to see if people respond by clicking on Quick Links, then Subscribed threads.
Anyway, is the Wait to Start light still illuminating when you turn the key to RUN? If so, crank the engine, and watch the tach. If the tach doesn't move at all, it is almost certainly the CPS. If it does move, then it still could be the CPS, but not for certain.
try checking your throttle position sensor with a volt meter. everything to me sounded like that until you mentioned it just died.
got a chip installed? could be loose.
COULD IT BE AN ODD OCCURANCE??? first tps and then 5 minutes later cps...wow $$$$$$

It could still be the CPS. If you don't have a spare yet, it would be a good idea to pick up a spare, as it can leave you stranded at any time. Then you can try putting the new one in, and if that doesn't fix it, then at least you have a known good spare.
The way the truck behaved before it died does bug me a little, too. I wonder if the ICP sensor could be bad. Is there any way you can scan for codes?
I will see if I can borrow someones hand held code reader, I do not have a spare CPS because although my truck almost hit 100,000 miles, I just bought it at 80,000.
It will be hard to play process of elimination with all these expensive sensors.
Ok, now, I'm going to try to get a reader, I understand the CPS and the TPS, but what is the ICP sensor that ryaneverk2 mentions ???????
I just thought, I wonder if the autoparts stores rent those code reader, I'm gonna call them.
Well the first thing I did when it was broke down in the street was change the filter, just in case (it was a little overdue) oil and filters I try to keep up on.
I thought pump also, maybe I'll test the pump, I didn't or don't see any smoke.
I keep calling parts stores and can not get any prices for that CPS less than 175.00 (crazy)
I remeber reading somewhere that the Cps connectors are not eh best...one person on here did some kinda test about unplugging and replugging in the eclectrical connector to the CPS 3 times and it started working...I guess its something to do with cleaning off the connectors by rubbing them togeter..thought it might be worth a shot...
thanks alot rickgmi, I will start with little tips like that. I sure wouldn't want to spend 175 if it was something silly like that.
I'll keep everyone updated when the truck is roaring again.
thanks for all the advice.
there is got to be away to test these out of the truck..maybe check magnetic pull...like a good one will pick up a certain weight while I bad one wont handle the weight....that might be it...if soneone has a bad one and good one maybe they can test this
