I am officially screwed as I was Cleaning out my 2002 Ford Explorer XLT and when I finish I go to move it and my seat is stuck. I always put the seats all the way forward to vacum under and now I cant drive as the automatic switch wont work in reverse????????but yet I can go up and down????? I have to get my girl to drive it :[. I was wondering if anyone knew what couldve happened and if I can fix it???????
I would give all the connectors that are under the seat a real good looking over to see if any are loose or disconnected... it really sounds like you may have hit one while cleaning.
Yeah I checked everything man, I wiggled and played with the wires makin sure they was all in the right spot. Nothing, It is stuck all the way too the front so it only goes up and down and when I go to put it back it clicks over but no movement. So I take it to ford and THE CLATTERing or PINGING is supposively the catalytic converter and thus is why I have no power the mechanic said. Luckily its under warranty till 130000kms. Also he says he will remove the entire track for the seat to see what is actually wrong but he added that a seat track is 622$ and I am not dealin out that dough??? What can I do instead??? he says I cant just buy the motor I have to buy the hole seat track??????????????
In my case, I caused the screw jack that moves the seat forward and backward to go past the near end. I had adjusted it all the way forward to load some wood in the back.
I unbolted the seat, but left all wires connected. I simply turned the screw jack manually using locking pliers(Vice Grips), while actuating the power adjuster. I used an old piece of rubber tubing to protect the screw jack from the the jaws of the Vice Grips. With a couple of tries back and forth, I got the adjuster working again. It was helpful to look under the other seat while adjusting it in order to see how things worked.
It may be a flaw that the adjuster goes a bit too far, and, in my case, the force of the wood pushed it passed the stop. I just do not go all the way forward any more.

Start visiting your local boneyards and find a wreck with a good set of seats. Should be less than $200.00 for a complete set. You may get lucky and find a damaged set with a good track and motor.
Another suggestion - try a good local auotmotive upolstry shop. Dealers send this type of work out to upolstry shops anyway. Going there direct cuts out the middle man.
