I've got a 94 Ranger with the electric windows. Yesterday the window rolled down fine and then ten minutes later wouldn't roll back up at all. I've taken the door panel off and looked around and when I press the raise button all I hear is a click. My questions are: Is the motor bad? Is it going to be a pain to fix it? And is there any way to get the window up and stay up without replacing whatevers broken? Thanks
I'd suspect the motor myself, but let somebody else with power windows back me up. I've never worked on a Ford power window system (I have manual windows and I'm not too sure if GM is laid out the same).
If it's like a Windstar window I worked on a few weeks ago, the motor just has two pins in the connector. Hook up a battery directly to the motor (very briefly). Then try it with the leads reversed (Up and down). For the windows, all the door switch does is reverse polarity of the 12 volts. Hooking up a battery directly bypasses all the wiring, switches, and relays, and gives you a positive result on the motor.
