What year is it? Does it beep all the time, or only when running? Does it beep with the key on but not running? Are there any indicators displayed on the dash? Sorry for all the questions, but we need more info...

Hey, that's what MY 99 Explorer does too! Anyone find the reason for this yet???
If a system fault is present and the air bag indicator is malfunctioning, an audible chime will be heard. The chime is a series of five sets of five tone bursts. If the chime is heard, the SRS requires repair.
My problem turned out to be the airbag warning bulb was burned out. I had bought the truck from my boss who had bought it brand new. It was stolen two days after he bought it. We recovered it four days later with no interior. After we put it back together using factory seats(possibly from a previous year) that we had custom upholsterd we noticed that the airbag warning light would stay on. Something about the seatbelt electrical plug on the seat wasn't the same as the original, we determined, was the cause. We took to the dealer to verify the airbag system was functioning correctly and just let it go. So after a period of continiued use the bulb finally burns out and the warning chime comes on! My mystery solved. Still trying to re-work the plug to resolve the airbag light problem. Good luck with your problems.
Well, at least I know what the chimes are for now - I guess not havin an airbag light was the cause. On a related note (kinda), my gas light doesnt come on either, so that is annoying because I never know how many more miles I've got to find a gas station...gotta start replacing bulbs I guess....
Thanks to everyone.
