I've got an '80 F100 styleside short box needing lots of bodywork on the box.
I have a chance to get a minty '88 short box and I need to know if I cut out the smooth, flared arched wheel openings I can replace that sheet metal with panels from an '80-'86 short box (from let's say, LMC). To me the design is the same except for the arch so if you go 2" either side of the opening you should be able to do this.I'm sure the inner fender can be made up. Anyone know if this sounds right?
Ya it will work!, however that is a lot of work. I took a 1989 long bed and welded on two hole new (1986) bed sides. It was easy except for making sure you center the bedside so that your body lines match up. I have seen a lot of guys just put a 1988 bed on their 80-86, and even though the wheel opeings didn't match it still looked alright.
I agree that it looks better when the front and rear match, but is is a lot of work.
