Has this ever happened to you? I was towing home deep tiller that I borrowed from the inlaws, and an inner wheel fell off! Not just the rim or the tire. The arm was realy hot, so the bearings must have been gone. It smashed the hub, lost the bearings, cap and seal. Rim and tire are fine. Went to the dealer to get parts. $185 just for the hub!!!!!!!! That's nasty!
Anyway on a cool Ford truck related note, I was pulling it with the PSD, had the tuner set to performance tow (honestly, I wasn't going over 30kph) and when the wheel fell off, I saw dust and rocks, but the truck just kept going! I left some really nice grooves in the road though! I was almost thinking of just continuing on, but thought I'd better stop and survey the damage.
That's all folks.
I had a wheel fall off a cultivator when I was towing it home from an auction sale but I was using a tractor. Still made things interesting for a few seconds though. If you are near a Princess Auto check them out they are usually much cheaper than the dealer. The one in Regina has a good selection of hub and axles.
Fom, That sounds like a good idea! Unfortunately, It's not my machine to mess with. And it wasn't mine to maintain either. I will be greasing it well before I use it or return it though.
I'm not sure how it'll work out. I haven't asked. I'm paying for it and if they offer, I won't say no. I also won't make them pay for it all. I just don't work that way. Here's hoping they'll split it with me.
