I recently bought a 1993 Aerostar sport 3.0 w/205,000 km on it . It had major exhaust leaks! fixed L extension pipe at manifold and at Y pipe. Saturday I did R exhaust Manifold , broke 2 rear upper bolts. broke 1/8 bit in centre hole !#*?!@%$^&. You guys know what I mean! Anyway, It seems to have little or no power, and I am getting it eTested Monday. Every vehicle in Ontario has to be etested when changing owners. As it seems from the info in this Forum, That may be my problem. It seems to run great at idle but accelerating it can barely get out of its own way.
I am a mechanic but almost exclusively on Truck/Coach, and my cat experience is Zero. The etest facility I go to is very reputable and I am sure they will be honest with me. I'll keep you guys posted and any other ideas would be helpfull Thanks
if it is a clogged cat it will get worse very fast, to the point where it will only idle. If that happens, just loosen a connector in front of the cat so you can emergency drive it. That is what the dealer did in canada until we got to a mufler shop.
Update : The 3.0 Aero passed with no trouble. I was very surprized! Now I will have to put on a new master and get the safety.
I didn't have to make an appointment, just drive in. This part is kind of cool: I sat in the waiting room where you can see the dyno where they do the etest and there was an Aero same colour and interior, but much more rusty than mine, I wanted to compare so I would feel good about mine so I took a closer look, and it had 250,000km on it and there were barely any rocker panels left.
Amazing how many people love their Aerostars and drive them to death!
