Techron from 8 years ago is likely a lot different than the Techron available today, just saying.

Josh

PS: When I saw the thread title I thought this was going to be about DieselTechRon...

Well here's the thing. At the time my fuel gauge started sticking I had never used any diesel additive in the truck. I don't believe the PO ever did either. I put in a normal dose of 1 oz/3 gal with no results for the first tank. The 2nd tank I did a 3oz/3gal ratio and it began working correctly again, but a couple times it intermittently flaked out on me. So a did a 3rd tank of 3oz/3gal ratio and it went away completely. Now sometimes I use DK, sometimes I don't (because it stinks and it spilled in my toolbox which has made everything still reek like DK so now I just keep it at home) but the issue has never come back.
Seeing as how you use it regularly I couldn't guess as to if this would work for you or not.

That's funny: shortening his name...

I doubt the product has changed, but I think they have cut down on the choices. I knew one of the developers (Chemical Physicist) of Techron but have lost contact with him some years back (we are both Chevron retirees but also raced Porsches together). On Edit: I meant to say it's more likely there have been some bad outcomes -- I noticed over the years how the product info originally said ok for diesels (even Ford had that TSB) then it went to only non-direct injection and now: don't use it in any diesel...

I know it also is an Octane booster, but I don't recall if that was the carrier or the PEA formula itself. It has performed miracles in some of my gas powered stuff!

I still might try it in the Bobcat, but I think I'll give spdmpo's overdose of DK a try 1st. Damn Bobcat has this LOUD alarm every time the gauge bounces low (I've thought about clipping the alarm wires, but it's the monitor for everything else too).

spdmpo: thanks for the recipe!

No problem, good luck. I guess I should have commonized it and just said 1oz/1gal, hahaha.

Sounds like it would just be easier to run a tank of B20...

If one could find that in my area it'd also be worth a try I do have a station that has off-road diesel not far from here -- saves a few coins, but I don't think there is any difference other than the dye and less taxes (I think all of CA is ULSD...).

Maybe I'll go hit some Bobcat or Kubota forums and see what they say...

All Diesel, whether dyed red, green or yellow is ULSD.

B20 is good stuff and cleans out everything.

That would be a good option also, I don't have any of that around here. I have to go 8 hours to TN to get that.
However, last time I filled up my 7.3 with B20 my fuel pump died 5 miles down the road. It was full of crud and locked up. I do not believe it to be coincidence. It cleaned my tank and filler lines I guess. I ended up replacing the pump and adding a filter in front of the pump. I won't be using B20 again in this truck. It'd be nice to start out from new though.

Just as a follow-up, I started researching diesel fuel additives with PEA (which is the main cleaning agent in Techron). I kept seeing that Chevron used to make diesel versions of Techron under it's Delo brand -- seem to have disapeared, as has Redline RL 1 (I think that's the name) that also had high concentrations of PEA.

Well guess what? Turns out Archoil makes a diesel fuel system cleaner AR6400-D that has PEA in it.

So where do folks get their Archoil products at (for the best price)? I tried Archoil themselves but the additive is $19.95 and it's $11 shipping...

I'm still flirting with the idea of the Techron Concentrate, but those dang Kubota motors aint cheap or easy to pull (well, for me)...
