crossmember rot
i just bought a 82 f150 sb 4x4. but the x member under the bed is rusted bad and so is the bed. got to love MD winters. What I want to know is there any place other than a dealer to find crossmembers and how would new ones attach (bolts or rivits)? and is it easier to rebuild my styleside with patch panels on both side and a floor or find a step side? I like both styles but if its easier to rebuild i'll fix mine.

well the x member is a riveted unit but ive replaced one before ! when you remove the bed then drill out all rivets and use grinder and a cut wheel to cut the welds at the seams horizantel with the frame or a cuttin torch works well! then replace the old rivets you drilled out with grade 8 bolts and lock washers then weld the heads of the bolts for insurance...........the best place to find a x member is the wrecking yard......good...luck clay
