Bed Crossmember

So when i took my bed off my 77 this past fall i found out that one of the crossmembers on the bed is almost completely gone on one side. I need to either get a new crossmember and weld into place of find some way to reinforce where its all rusted out.

i would put pictures on this thread but i dont know how, but there are two pictures of my bed in my album.

You could cut it out and replace it with a piece of channel, that would be easiest.

i thought about cutting it off and taking it to a local welding/ fab shop and having them make me one or all new ones

i have access to a sheet metal shop and made new ones for my wife's cousins chebby, pretty easy to make. we had the bed off and flipped upside down to weld them in.

I would just leave the flanges on and cut it with a grinder where the crossmember meets the flange and then just weld in a 1X2 or 1X3 square channel or rectangle whatever you want to call it right where the flange meets it. Very little labor just a nice piece of channel and cutting and grinding.
