hey guys, its been a while but i've had nothing to talk about, My dad decided to give our 76 to my little brother so i went out and bought a 1990 F150 4x4, i drove it for a while then had to put an alternator on it. Then i put my lincoln back on the road for summer, problem with the truck is the wirring under the hood, my fuel pump doesnt work all the time and sometimes when i hit a bump the truck quits and wont start for a few days. My folks want me to sell it but i dont wanna give up, i was thinking about putting 302 that is carbureted in it with the wirring harness and computer, or just redoing the wirring in it now. Any ideas or advice? I really want to keep my truck and make it reliable for college.
Confirm this on the electrical forum.......
The hot lead to the fuel pump relay is a yellow wire that commonly corrodes/breaks on the underside of the relay box.
I believe that you have to unbolt the relay box from its' mount to get at the yellow wire connection.
If you do not have any wiring diagrams, Franklin2 or Subford on the electrical forum can usually pull one up.
Hope this helps solve the problem.
AL.
thanks for the advice guys, i found some corroded wires going to the relay and i repalced them and sprayed the relay with cleaner and i havnt had any trouble with the little bit i've been driving it, hopefuly that fixed it.
Funny you should say that, i found alot of custom wiring under the hood, some real mickey mouse stuff, i found alot of electrical stuff that belongs in a house, let alone a truck.
my friend that i keep my truck at his place has two diesels and he's only keeping one and i wanna buy the other off of him. I'm gonna ask him if he will make a deal with me so i can pay him month by month over the 2 years that i'm at college.
Its a 1994 f350 4x4, crew cab, with a 7.3 automatic, It needs a new tranny and possibly a new rad but the truck is in overall decent shape and doesn't even 200,000km yet, so i hope i can make a deal, then i would just need to find the tranny. The bigger the better.
Does anybody know ho hard it is to come by tranny's for those trucks, and rads?
IT's an E4OD transmission, not rare but expensive, even used. The earlier ones were problematic. Make your best deal for the truck just work the price of the tranny into the deal. I saw a small block one, used , going for $600 so plan on spending at least that amount if not double for what you need.
