oil pans

hi guys i would like to thought this question out there for you.i am in the middle of rebuilding my 400 i need a new oil pan the jb welded one WILL not go back on this motor. i know mildon sells stock replacment pans and hi volume pans. the truck is used for arought town stuff and goes in the mudd once and awhile. i think a stock pan should be ok. but the guy at the speed shop dosent think so ( i also think he wants the bigger sale) your opinions??

IMHO...If you are doing your 400 build right, a little more money to have a quality oil pan is worth it! If you were to go off road and something happened to a stock pan, would have been worth it to have the better one? Just my .02 cents though!!

One thing about deep pans. If you have a auto trans, & you ever need to seperate the engine from the trans, you'll have to drop the pan to get at the torque converter studs. Because the back of the pan butts right up against the bell housing. Making it impossible to get at the torque converter studs.

That wouldn't be a problem if it's a front sump. A performance pan would probably seal better that a used stocker.

ok well here is all the details. in auto class we put headers on the truck well my headers would not fit with out lifting the motor. well the teacher put a floor jack under the pan and well you know the rest.

i have a standard tranny so it would not be a problem if i need to pull it.

i need a new pan no mater what. so i am just wondering about your thoughts

I prefer the stamped stock type pan to a welded unit but there is nothing really wrong with aftermarket units.

As far as sealing it is always advantageous to spend some time cleaning up the pan flange and judiciously flattening it except for slight conical indentations where the bolts go. It even pays to look over the flange on a new pan.

Does anyone know if the silicone pan gaskets with spacer inserts are available for the 335 series engines? Now those are great gaskets!!! I have used them on the 302.
