My rearend has been worked on 3 different times. All bearings are like new and the clutch pak has been rebuilt twice. After about 2000 miles a roaring sound starts. It only roars when turning left or right. What else can be wrong with it? Can the clutch pak cause a roaring sound? Have been to 2 different Ford dealers and a master mechanic and have spent a lot of money but no one has been able to fix it.
any noise or grabbing while turning is normally related to the clutch pack. it must "slip" when turning. both halfs rotate at the same speed when going in a straight line. i would make sure they added the limited slip addative. i think i would get the 7 ounce tube at AUTO ZONE and add it to what you ahve. a little extra cant hurt, and it might solve the problem or prove a point one way or another.
Do you have 4x4? If so then it could be your transfer case. There is a planetary gear in there that when badly worn will growl or rumble under a load or sharp turns just like a bad LS clutch pack. Drain the transfer case and look for metal shavings. Hope you don't find any....
2002 truck with that much problem. any one check the outer bearings or the u joints. is it really the rear and not the front hub assemblys haveing bad bearing and sounding like the rear. and how about bad tire steel belts making the tires roar like bearings.
I had similar problems with mine. Turned out the noise made when turning was from the emergency brake assembly. They adjusted it and the grinding noise stopped.

Did it only do it when turning left or right? Did it get worse when it got hot? Was it a roaring, grinding noise that sounds like metal rubbing together?
