I just saw that my front diff was wet and got underneath the truck and noticed the steering components were wet as well. I still have power steering and nothing is wet above the stabilizer, so I think it is the culprit. I have been noticing a more pronounced death wobble as of late. Maybe it is time to take it in and get them both fixed and maybe check the ball joints. I have 17,000 miles on the truck and 8 months old.
I don't know why they haven't fixed it yet, but the stock stabilizers do seem to die VERY fast.
The one on my 2001 died within 6 months. Yours is 8 months. Other people on here get similar results.
Since it's free, get it warranteed and be done with it (for another 8 months).
If you want to spend the money, you can get a Rancho (or other brand) stabilizer that will bolt to the stock mount. I've had one on my 2001 for the past 3 years, still going strong...
I just got to lookin under mine and I thought my stablizer was shot but the tranny cooler line above it was a lil loose and shot fluid all over, perhaps I was wrong ? It's still bent to high hell, oh well.
Thanks for the reply Art. I don't remember seeing many threads on this subject in the past.
Ford wanted me to bring the truck in before they ordered the part...what a waste of time. You'd think they wouldn't wat to tie up superduties for longer than they had to.
I don't think they realize how much people depend on these trucks for a living.
Is it ok to drive with the SS all messed up? I will continue to get it fixed under warranty and then upgrade when its over. I was considering the DR and rancho.
Looks like we'll be taking the little car if I don't get this fixed this week.
I just notice the other day when turning slow that I have a rubber whinning noise.(Don't know how else to call the noise) I check all the ball joints, greased the front end, pulled the brakes and greased the slide pins,(they were alittle seized) and can't think of anything else it could be. I replaced the orignal about a year ago with a heavyduty monroe. Mine hit something and looked like a u-bolt. Going to take it off tonight and see if that is the problem. I hope it is becuase I don't know what else to check. Any ideas?
As long as the bump steer isn't too bad, why not drive it?
Make sure it's the stabilizer though!
The stabilizer is soaking wet and there is oil near the front diff and on the passenger side hub. It appears that it is leaking from each side of the piston. Does this sound familiar?
The front diff is sealed tight and the axles don't appear to be leaking. Plus the oil is very fine so I hope it is just the stabilizer.
It looks like it dripped out of the end where the rod goes in and then flowed down the SS and dripped off onto the passenger side knuckle, panhard bar and steering linkage. The oil/fluid just looks black/brown and is very thin. Nothing leaking under the motor, tranny, radiator, etc.
