XM Antenae

Mine is on the roof, and have had no problems during the fall and winter. Now that the trees are full, it seems to fade out quite alot on the highways even. I have the Terk Commander. Anyone else having any problems?

I have a Aftermarket Sirius, with no problems what-so-ever, and during my talks with the (Sirius)service techs prior to installation... I was told to make sure my antennae had an unobstructed view of the southern sky during the initial activation and update. How much of an impact that has on the functionality afterwards...I couldn't tell ya other than, I havn't had any issues.

Also I am not sure how XM is on the "antennae" controls" on the display. I know if I wanted to use a different (Terk) antenna with my (Sirius)display/tuner than what had came with it. Then I would have to change my antenna selection along with the gain controls on the display or tuner unit.

HI,

I live in the Allegany mountain area of Western Md. Some of the roads are on sides of hills and close to overhangs. Even with that I have minimal issues with reception. As an example I have a route from Friendsville (rt42) to McHenry that is about 7 miles. At one point I lose transmission for about 5 seconds. Other than that their is no interruption. And when I was with my sister in her vehicle and she was using a GPS she also lost reception in that same area.

I also regularly travel I-68 from the WV line to Balto (maybe 180 miles or so) and I lose transmission twice. Once near LaVale with a large overhang and in the cut in the mountain (Sidling Hill). Each place maybe 5 to 10 seconds of empty air.

I put the antenna about 6 inches or so back from the front of the windshield. I think that was within the specs in the instructions.

I have an XM radio and I mounted the antenna on the top of the dash at the front edge right up against the windshield. I used velcro to keep it in place. I haven't had any reception problems at all.

I too have mine sitting on the middle of the dash tucked up to the windshield and have no issues with reception.
