I just got a Flowmaster Super 40. Still waiting to put it on though...gotta fix the donut gasket first, as it's leaking like crazy.
I was going to get a Goerlich Race muffler. A friend of mine has some on his Chebbie with a 350. 3" true duals, headers, and no cats. The best sounding exhaust I have ever heard. Well...another friend has the same thing on his Dodge, with stock cats and manifolds, and it is too quiet for me.
Just use a glasspack. I had a flowmaster 40 series, and cut it out after 2 months to install a glasspack that was 1/4 the price, twice as loud, and much more throaty. Don't put the flowmaster up on a pedestal. It's no different than any other performance muffler, and I personally think they suck. This glasspack (summit racing), does not make it obscenely loud, but you'll be heard a neighborhood over startin your truck. These trucks can be made very loud, but the cats would have to be removed. Don't worry about backpressure or anything, the cats take care of all that. In some states, a truck won't pass inspection without some kind of muffling device (like a muffler or glasspack), so if you're not sure if it's legal, don't run straight pipes.
whats a link for the glasspack? in california they got all these stupid laws about everything.
I've never had trouble with mufflers in CA. I've got two tiny Magnaflow racing mufflers that are really too loud for the street, and just passed smog a few months ago.
Perhaps it's the shop/technician...I suppose if you get a real stickler they can fail you, so perhaps if you ask around you'll be OK.
thanks, is there any preformance and noise difference between that and the magnaflow muffler, im happy i go out of town for the weekend and my package should be here waiting for me
Performance, on a near stock truck, you won't be able to tell the difference. The magnaflow gives you a more bass like pitch, where the glasspack gives you a growl like you may hear at the drag strip.
I just went to a magnaflow last thursday dualed it out sounds great but i have not noticed much in any power gain. I also drove 1000 miles this weekend up to eagle river wis and back and i almost feel like i lost gas milage.??? i know it sounds funny. but oh well
really? damn i was hoping to increase milage and torque. how hard was the stock exhasut to take off? i have all of my parks off but the pipes dont budge WD40 and everything. i think its was clamped on so tight that it wont allow it to move.
I have a flowmaster cat back system and headers on my truck and i love it. It has a nice idle that can be heard but does not give that fart can effect, its also a lot deeper when you punch it but levels out at cruising speeds. The easiest way to remove the old exhaust is just sawzall it off, you will have nothing but trouble removing the existing bolts and can buy the new hardware for under 20 bucks to install the new muffler. As for the change in gas mileage you can forget it, i have come to the realization that nothing will help your mileage out enough to really be worth while, altho it is a good excuse to put all the extras on your truck.

My Fault guys on the post above...I screwed it up, haha! Anyways, that comment was perfectly stated by BOARD627...your exactly right, nothing is worth the money to increase mileage in out trucks. Afterall...its a Truck, not a 4 cylinder!
i cut my old pipe out today and now ran into another problem, i think the mid pipe is to long but i don't know for sure. it is definatly longer than the old mid pipe. when i put the muffler it is WAY to long to match up with the old hanger mount do i gotta cut it?
