Is it possible to lower the back of a 61-66 by flipping the axle on the leaf springs?
Yes. Anything's possible. you don't actualy flip the axle, though. that would make the ring gear turn the wrong way. you cut the spring perches off and re attach them on the bottom side. relitivly easy.

Hard to answer this without seeing your truck. best way to tell is to measure from the top side of the spring to the frame. then subtrack the diamiter of the axle tube from that space. you'll want room in that for atleast 3 inches of up travel and space for a bumpstop

Yeah, I guess I stated it wrong. Remember that episode of Junkyard Wars where the car they built blew the forward transmission gears? They flipped the axle over and used reverse to power the car forward!
I flipped mine. I know thats how a lot of the guy's are lowering the rear. Not that hard to do. Notching the frame is a little more involved but still not that hard. I took a piece of thick walled pipe and cut it in half, then used a piece of plate steel to make the "box". There's a picture of it in my gallery.
I would recommend a panhard bar like tiremine has on his wicked bad truck, this keeps the axle from moving side to side, especially if your going to be putting some power to the ground.I used to be into the minitruck thing and with airbags and a fourlink (which I hope to do to my 66 someday) it is almost required.
