After reading all great advice from everyone through the winter, I finally got the power steering conversion done on my `67 F-100 2wd. It does not operate like I thought it would...it takes more effort on the wheel to turn the truck than I anticipated. At highway speed it works good. But when turning a corner or pulling into the driveway, it steers hard. It seems to get better when moving very slow...like at idle. The pump is a fresh NAPA rebuilt but it seems to make more noise than it should..not a lot but I can hear it working. Is that normal? Is the preload set wrong? How do I adjust it? Any advice is appreciated.
Raise the front end if you can, and turn the wheel coast to coast 10 or more times. I also loosened the return line and with the engine running did the same thing. You are bleeding the air off.
