I was wondering, are there any good overdrive automatics that i could swap into the 'ol 2WD F-100? I was looking at the 700R4 but i'm not sure how easily that'd really go in. Are there any other good overdrive automatic options? If i could do it for REAL cheap. So include any prices.

Reason: remove for sale
of course there is always the aod, that and the chevy's 200 and 700 are about the easiest due to lack of computer controls. Aod being the easiest no computer controls just a tv cable needed. what motor?
It's a 302 with a bunch of intake mods. Yeah the 700R4 is a chevy tran's but it's also TV controled and it's supposedly a great tranny, you just need an adaptor, what are the costs of an AOD and are they overdrives?
What does the AOD come out of? And how many gears does it have? Will a used unit stand up to use of a modified 302 in a truck? because i'd rather pay $200 for a used tranny they $800 for a 700R4 that's fully rebuilt, but i don't want to have to buy a new one in a year! Also, how does the overdrive actuate on it?
Is that going to be OK with towing and heavy loads? The truck i want to stick it in is also going to be converted to a 4x4 soon if i do swap the tranny. What would be the best vehicle to get it out of if i was going to swap it into a 302?
Get an AOD out of a 4x4 302 or 300 F series. The 4x2 trans is different and won't mate to a transfer case without changing the output shaft, which involves a complete teardown.
The AOD is a four speed trans with a lockup torque converter. Fourth gear is overdrive.
So it's not a 4-speed with a 5th overdrive, it's a 3-speed with a 4th overdrive? What years are those F-series? And what are the destinguishing marks on the tranny?
The AOD started in 1986, but I'm not sure when the AODE started. You want the AOD, though. The door code for that tranny is T.
It's most commonly found behind 302's, but you can also find it behind 300's, though it's rare. You can also find an E4OD behind a 302, but again, it's rare. If it's a four speed auto, and it's a 302, chances are it's an AOD.
OK, what else do i need to aquire to make it work? i'd like to use a lock-up converter if possible for milage reasons. Also, where would i get the flex plate? I also suppose i'd need to at least get a dummy transfer case before i convert it to 4x4 so i can run the tranny right?
I would recommend doing the whole thing at once. Unless you have mad fab skillz, there's no such thing as a dummy transfer case. Assuming you find an AOD from behind a 302, just use the flexplate from that truck, or go buy a new one.
