Well i live in an apt so i need to have my mech. do it for me, so i'd rather just run a transfer case without the shifters i suppose. So i should get one from a 4x4 truck too, correct (tranny and transfer case)? Also, what about the convertor for it? (and the shifter)
So it's not a 4-speed with a 5th overdrive, it's a 3-speed with a 4th overdrive? What years are those F-series?
No, it's a four speed with 4th being overdrive. If it were a 3 speed it would only have 3 gears, and if it were a 5 speed it would have 5 gears. It doesn't, it has four gears, and one of those is an overdrive ratio.
I forget when they started using the AOD in the F series, but it was quite a while ago, probably about 1980 or so. It ran in the F series until about 1992 when the AODE replaced it.
The best way is to find a 4x4 302 truck. Get the flex plate, torque converter, transmission, and transfer case, along with the shifter for the transfer case.
What about the TV cable? Should i just fab my own later on? Anything specific i should get for it? And are there any mods i should do to the tran's before the mech puts it in the truck? How do the convertors lock up, is there special wireing like on a chevy?
The torque converter lockup is hydraulic, there is no electrical connection.
The TV cable is critical. I don't have a recommendation other than get it right!
Grrr, lol. What about rebuilding, do you suggest a full rebuild (clutches, gaskets, valve bodys, ect)? What about adding a shift kit or somthing like that before it goes in?
