do a search for this very topic. ive done this along with many others. you will need an efi upper/lower intake, tfi mounted distributor, oilpan & proper flywheel. the 302 wiring harness, throttlebody, motor mounts and accessory brackets should all fit onto the 5.8. you will also need to swap over the timing chain cover and the fuel rail/injectors as well. look on ebay for the upper/lower they are common. its worth it for sure and easy

why go backwards. efi is far better in a 4wd application and plus going carb wont pass emissions and is illegal.

Logan, the EFI system will give you better fuel economy and horsepower. And yes there are still emissions laws in ohio. If you go to carb from EFI it will not pass a visual roadside inspection.

Start doing your research. I built my 351 for EFI, and when I am done I am going to use my 302 for a EFI Mustang; perhaps a 65-THAT will walk the line!!

EFI is beter period.
Carb is easier period.

If you are willing to learn the EFI then it will make sense and become easier. Carb is popular for the same reasons guys drop 350s in 32 Fords--they're idiots......now that's not fair. Those systems are everywhere and they are understood by most people.

If you take time to learn the EFI, Comp and Crane can help you get the cam that meets your needs and you can build for all the power that you can handle.

The M5OD will work with a 351 but you have to be gentle. I believe that is was only rated for 200ish pounds of torque. It is real easy and pretty cheap to switch to a ZF.

The best thing you can do is keep asking questions.

Good luck and thank God the E Check is Gone!

could u guys please just walk me through this entire process?
i mean i know cars and trucks pretty good so ill be able to keep up with ya guys...im just not sure on how to do this swap thats all... and i didnt think i could switch that carbed 351 over to EFI....i belive its an older engine to... soo. i dunna.. i would like to have the carb for the reason of having a nasty *** cam.. but if u guys say i can have a nasty *** cam with efi...then ill prolly go that route... i mean my intentions for this truck....is to have a mad tire layin machine...i was thinking about goin to an automatic C6 tranny but...i think it would be a bitch gettin it switched over to an auto... but if u guys are willing to walk me through everything...ill do whatever u guys say is best to do...

just start listing/telling me what i need to do... please....

1) The Mazda (M5OD) will be fine for now. If you want truck power than you will want the ZF. If you want to spin the tires, then you want a Mustang. The ZF is a 5er with a 5.76ish 1st gear so it might spin the tires.

2) The best place for parts is eBay. The second best place for parts is the spring and fall Ford swap meet at the Columbus fair grounds (I haven't been yet, although I hear great things).

3) The intakes are the most improtant parts. An EFI upper and lower are the biggest part. There will be some other small stuff. Books like How To Build Small Block Fords and Ford Fuel Injection will help when doing the work and research.

4) Fordfuelinjection.com has some great info.
