I have a chance to pick up a very solid 1969 1/2 ton ranger. It is auto with aftermarket air. I believe its a 360. The body is in great shape with no rust. needs paint. the interior need minor work. The 360 probably need lots of work.

Can anyone give me an idea of a fair price???

Thanks

Just curious, how do you know if it is an aftermarket AC unit? I had one shop tell me mine was an after market AC unit just because it was under the dash. Mine looks just like the one in the manual.

Fair price depends on lots of factors, but with a straight, solid body and a running 360 in need of a rebuild, I'd say $700-1200.

The factory AC was a huge unit that mounted under and behind the dash on the passenger side. It takes up most of the space occupied by the glove box, so the glove box on a factory air '69 is extremely shallow -- only a couple of inches. To make up for that lost space, the air unit included an auxiliary storage compartment with a drop-down door at its bottom left (just above and to the right of the transmission tunnel). A factory unit will also have controls for the AC included in the main HVAC control panel under the radio.

Some'69s that didn't come from the factory with AC got dealer-installed underdash air. This unit, sometimes called a "slimline", mounted to the underside of the dash and follows its contours. It has several rotary control ***** on the left side (about the middle of the dashboard). An underdash unit like this may have been installed by the dealer when it was sold, or it may have been added later in the truck's life.

Karl, I’m not an expert on the ac option but I thought the integral control panel with ac started in ’70 like this one:

Didn’t the earlier factory ac units have all the controls on the unit itself while the dash had the standard heater control panel? At least that's what it lookes like in the brochures.

Nope. Integral AC became available in 69. The brochures don't show it, probably because they were printed at the beginning of the year and factory AC was a midyear change. The same thing happened with the 302. According to the brochures, the only V8s available were the 360 and 390. In fact, however, Ford started offering the 302 midway through 1969, so factory 302-equipped 1969 trucks are out there.

My '69 F100 Ranger was built in March of 1969, and it has the factory AC with integral controls just like the picture you posted.
