thanx. i will make sure i order it tomorrow. how did your install go? any pics? or is the infoi posted good enough? i was also wondering if you needed any teflon tape to complete the seal?
The adapter has an "O" ring so no you don't need tape, I finally installed mine it was easy just need two hands one to remove plug and the other to be ready to put over hole to stop coolant then quickly install the new adapter. Install the sensor into the adapter first, you will need teflon tape for this. My fan comes on at about 200 degrees.
i would like to thank you all for the great info. as it helped me tremendously. especially the special adapter that you need for this install. and i also bought insulating wire loom made by thermotech part number 17063 it can also be found here. http://murraysauto.com/store/myProdu...on=3%7CCooling to insulate the wire from the exhaust manifold
it was an 8mm female hex plug not 6mm on mine. but had to use a 4 inch 1/2'' extension and universal adapter with a 8mm hex tip to reach the plug. and boy what a lake of coolant that comes out if your not quick in pluging that hole so i can see why you need to have the sender installed in the adpter first. i put teflon tape on both just in case as they recommended it. i will post some pics soon. now my temp reading is around 180 degrees unloaded
hey guys, i have a quick question, since your install of a secondary water temp gauge, i was wonder if you could tell me what the temp is when the stock gauge says around half, and then what your aftermarket gauge tells you the temp is when the stock gauge hit around 3/4. I think it would have been a lot more helpful if ford put some numbers on the darn gauge. thanks
I Have Been A In The Mid 220's And My Stock Gauge Never Moved Up Fron Half Way Point I Would Reason That If Your Stock Gauge Reches 3/4 And Your Fan Has Not Come On Then You Are Headed For Trouble Just A Thought Though

well, when the stock gauge starts to move a little is when my autometer says 100 degrees, when just cruising around town it is about 180 degrees when the stock one is in the middle, but the problem lies after that. the stock one will read middle when your engine could be at 200 degrees, so you really have no idea until its too late. with the aftermarket gauge you know when to back off a little to let it come back down. i have yet to hit 3/4 on the stock gauge i'm scared if it ever does
my 6.0 has hit 3/4 several times, and has been into the dealership too many times to count for this problem. what im begining to wonder if all of this gauge movement is normal or what. the dealer told me today that the 6.0 should be running around 190-200 around town and around 220 230 when its hot outside while towing.he also said that 240 was approaching disaster. i hope its not normal for a 52,000 truck to get that hot pulling less than 5000 pounds! oh well the search continues
how long does it take the engine to reach 180 degrees.
this picture was taken right as i arrived at work the other day. the water temp at top just reached 180 as i pulled into the parking lot it is 9 miles from my house all stop and go traffic. i was wondering if everyones was about the same. seems odd to me that it takes that long for the engine to get up to temps. the tranny was the same thing it finally reached 160 as i pulled in
My trip into work is about 15 minutes. It takes me about half of that to get to 190 (where I normally sit) and then sometimes I don't hit 160 until I park at work if I do at all.
Right with you all on temps and time. It does take a long time, but the blocks are cast iron right? That will take a while to get hot. It just holds it longer.
i forgot about the gallons of coolant and gallons of oil that have to also heat up which makes me understand why these vehicles were made for long hauls and towing not as grocery getters of 2 mile trips.
