engine codes

Official bussiness out of the way, let's get down to your question.
There are several ways to scan for codes. You can purchase a code scanner for about 30 bucks which comes complete with a book that explains all the codes, as well as how to reset your computer among other things; you can go to a local auto parts store such as AutoZone, many of them will scan your vehicle for free in hopes that you'll buy any needed parts from them.
You can also do it yourself with no sophisticated equipment. One way is to use a simple jumper wire that puts the computer in code retrieval mode and you count the flashes of your CEL (Check Engine Light) or you can use an analog (needle) type multi-meter and count the sweeps of the needle.
