Alright, first the back story. My dad has a 92 ranger with a 4.0, auto, 4" lift, 2" body lift, 33x12.5s and that is it for mods.
After the lift we noticed the clip yoke at the carrier bearing was worn. We found a 1 piece D-line out of a 2000 ranger that fits perfect, other than the cross member where the carrier bearing is. If we cut this crossmember out, will it cause any issues?
Cut it, and weld in another piece that goes up above or down below the driveshaft. Probably won't cause any problems just pulling it, but it'd be best to keep it.
Since it's not on the other versions, I doubt it would do anything, unless you do serious offroading, in which case you've probably strengthed it anyways.
I stand with Ford_Six on this one though, might as well weld somethin' in just for good measure, better safe than sorry. I'd weld above in case you need to remove the driveshaft!
I agree with Jared. Crossmembers are sooo easy to fabricate and install, and easy enough to make removeable if you like for down the road component removal.
