STEERING COLUMN QUESTION

Welcome to Fte!

Sorry Mate ! I can't read what you wrote.

You posted in ALL upper case.

Not only is it Hard to read But,On the web it is also refered to as
yelling.

Perhaps if you posted in Lower case instead, I could help.

You might notice that everyone else posts in lower case for these reasons.

STEERING COLUMN QUESTION

Hey, welcome. They yelled at me too about the caps.I did'nt know better but they taught me. It's a good bunch hear with a lot of knowledge. About your column you said it just floats in there. There is a tube hat operates your linkages and a shaft that that goes from your steering wheel all the way to you rag joint that is connected to the steering box. A bearing retainer at the top under the turn switch and a strap retainer at the bottom bearing. Sometimes the bottom strap will become loose allowing play in the shaft. It looks like a pipe clamp with a bolt to through it. Loosen the bolt, get someone to push in on the steering wheel, push the clamp up all the wat and tighten the bolt. Hope this helps since I'm not exactly sure of your problem. Does the gear selector work properly?

STEERING COLUMN QUESTION

Also note that I was fooling with an extra 71 col...just takening it apart to see all the goodies in it before I pull out my 69. I did find a small 1/2 thick, split bushing just under my turn signal that must be used for an uppper bushing for stability.... havn't put it in my 69 but I'm sure that's why I have some free slop in my 69..

STEERING COLUMN QUESTION

There should be a bearing top and bottom. The plasctic split bushing you're talking about should be a race for the top bearing ( I think) It's been awhile since I messed with one.
