leakin mad oil

I am trying to make my truck perfect....thats why i have so many post I am looseing and burning some, about 2 quarts a week of 20w 50. I replaced the valve cover gaskets and tightened the drainplug. This helped some but not enough. My whole block is pretty much usually drenched with thich oil. What would be the next gasket that i could replace that might help. thakns

One of the most overlooked items relating to oil leaking is the PCV valve.. Think of what it does.. it allows engine vaccum to keep a negative pressure on the crankcase, which naturally tends to keep the fluids inside the engine. check that P valve...

check the seal on the distributor where it meets the intake manifold.
also try using a single weight oil.
i use a 50wt. in the summer & 30wt. in the winter. most older engines
were designed before multi weight oils really cought on.
my 390 preforms just fine with a single weight oil (i just warm it up for a few miniutes befor i drive off).

My suggestion...

1. Get a gallon of gas
2. Dispense the gas evenly over the engine
3. Get a match
4. Light the match and touch a part where the gas is
5. Sit back and watch your troubles melt away

Just Kidding. Intake gasket is a possibility, but not likely if the block is drenched. That would only allow the the oil to run down the front by the timing cover and back. Try checking the oil pan gasket. I know it sounds dumb, but the crank is slinging all the oil in the pan around, if the gasket's leaky, then you have a problem.

You should have only one pcv valve in the passenger side v-cover. The hose from it should go to the base of the carb or the spacer under the carb. The other valve cover should have a breather with a hose going to the air cleaner. If you alter the system, it could have adverse effects on your engine. It'll start blowing oil, sucking gas and running rough. Make sure it is working well.

Kinda tuff for anyone to "see" yur engine. First thing.. Clean it! Scrub that engine down. We use Simple Green at our shop to clean nasty stuff, its cheap and it works. We take a spray bottle with stright Simple Green and have it. Let it soak and then hit it with a hose. A couple times around and most of the heavy stuff is off. Be careful if you decide to pressure wash yur engine. Sometimes the water gets to places you dont want it to. Once its clean Run it and see if you can spot the leaks. A good mirror and flashlight come in handy. Find the leak and work yur way up til you dont see anymore oil.. Pin point it and you win! Good hunting!
