There are several different aftermarket gates out there . They fit OK but don't hold up to weight or rust as well. Last I bought was $125.00. But I couldn't find a nice factory one for under $250.00 .
As for gas prices I drive my truck 500+- miles a week (30-32 gallons) . I usually have a beater to run but those small cars kill my back and I can't fit tools in . And small pickups aren't comfortable and mileage isn't much more. I alway have 3 or more vehicles on road (insurance is cheaper ) but I sold off 2 last fall and didn't replace them yet. And my other truck gets 10 -12 MPG . I'd keep t for weekends and buy a beater. Good luck
Hey, I found a tailgate at my local junkyard for $150.00. I have a 1991 F-150, and after figuring out how to take off these flat bolts, everything fit right in place. I will warn you, that there was three different types mechanism used between 1987 to 1996. You might have to take your old stuff off and place it in your new tailgate. If there is anything I can do to help you let me know. I just went through it last week. take care, and good luck. Fatbat
