The teeth on the gear that drives the VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor(Speedometer sending unit) keep breaking off. I've seen posts that state that the gears with 20 or more teeth, because the teeth are thin, are prone to breakage. Mine shear off a couple of teeth every 5000 miles or so. The first time this happen I freaked out. The speedo started jumping are over the place, but the transmission also started shifting wrong. Obvisously, the transmission gets an input from the VSS.
Has anyone else had trouble with this gear?
I have replaced the gear 4 times. Because the gear was hard to find the first time, I kept the part number. It is D0OZ-17271-B. Note that this is D Zero the letter 'O' Z. When I purchased the new gear this time, I got a totally different gear. Pink instead of purple, 19 teeth instead of 20. Turns out the pink gear is for a manual transmission. Looks like THIS part number is D00Z (zero zero) Z.
So, not only am I having tough time with the gears, I am having a tough time finding the correct replacement.
