Hi there, I have an 02 X with the V10. I got some crummy gas . I added some dry gas, and injector cleaner, and another 35 gallons of fuel. For the most part it cleared up till I got back down to 1/4 tank then she started running a bit stuttery again . I filled up again, and added some more cleaner and dry gas. I bought a fuel filter, to change that as well. I know it's on the rail by the driver side door. What I would like to know is if I need any special tool to get it out, and if I should know anything special before I try and change it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
They'll sell a whole bundle of them at the parts store. The package might be labeled "A/C Disconnect Tools", they're the same thing and they'll look like little round plastic discs. Don't buy the ones that look like a 'X', other users have had problems with that type of tool.
Remember you're dealing with GAS-O-LINE so take all the necessary precautions. Some users like to pull the fuse for the fuel pump and let the truck run dry of gas, but I just let small amount of gas drain into a catch pan.
it's under a little pressure. I always just disconnect mine while pointing the open end away from me and keep a bucket to catch the leakage. you could hold a towel over the fitting while you are disconnecting it to help keep it from splashing in your face.
Thanks to all who have helped so far. $11 got me a full set of the round ones as you advised. Plus a good rag towel, and a tin, in case there is some gas leakage. I should now have everything I need. Hopefully this weekend I will get the chnace to pull it. I will report back on how easy/hard it was for anyone else attempting it.
it looks ahrder then it is man . after the first one the rest take about 10 mins on your back in the drive way. the newer ones "05/06" don't even need the tool just push in on the blue clip and push the line off the filter . took me 5 mins on mine
All done, very simple, once you figure out what that little white thing actually does the rest is a breeze. For some reason the first line just didn't want to "click" when I inserted the "fuel disconect tool" so I turned, I pushed, I pulled, and nothing, then I pulled on the line a bit and turned the tool, and viola! "click" the line came off and I got a little gas sprayed in my face. Once I looked at the connection the next line took only a second. With both lines off the filter pulled right out of the holder. Put the new filter in and clicked the line in a minute or two. There was deinitely junk and some water in the filter. But the truck seems to be running smoother now so we'll add some more dry gas and hope for the best. Thank you again for all the help!
