VIN and differential help

I have a 2001 VIN that I need help decoding as well as a rear differential. The VIN is: 1FMPU16LX1LB55581

The rear diff. is stamped at the top with S 939 P and at the bottom of the tag with L55 9 75 1 E 06. Is this as simple as 9.75 rear end?

Is the friction modifier necessary when changing the rear diff fluid?

Thanks for the help.

There's a VIN decoder at https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/vin_tools/.

The VIN you provided is a 2001 XLT 4x4 5.4L (the decoder doesn't say it's a 4x4, but I know that for the XLT, the U15 model code is 4x2 and U16 is 4x4). Can't tell any more from the VIN except that it was built at Michigan Truck and the production sequence is B55581 (which means it's neither an early nor late build, right in the middle, doesn't tell you anything).

Not sure about the differential. What is the axle code on the driver's door pillar?

H9 axle code should be 3.55 limited slip. You will need the friction modifier for the rear diff.
