Hard start

For some reason lately when I try to start my truck It just keeps turning over and acts like the batteries are draining down. I just put 2 brand new ones in yesterday. While doing this you can see the unburnt fuel smoke coming out the tailpipe. I noticed today that if I leave the key switched to on and wait at least another 30 seconds after the wait to start light goes off before cranking then it turns over and starts fine. Once started it always cranks right up, but if allowed to sit for 8 hrs or so its right back to the same thing. It seems like it may have something to do with the glow plugs . I'm in southest Ga. and it's not cold in the least bit. Thanks.

the little cold it is it will still be hard.

take a look at your volt meter when you turn on the key. if it doesnt drop almost to the 8 your gpr is bad.

you can get a new one from napa for 20 bucks. gpr 109
or a heavy duty stancor online. 40 bucks.

Is it normal to have to wait a while after the wait to start light goes off before it will crank?

If you are having to wait after the light goes off, no colder than it is here, then it sounds like some of your glow plugs are not working. Also have the amp draw on your starter checked, if your starter is dragging and not spinning up fast enough it will make it hard to start. Good Luck.

Make sure you got some fuel in the fuel bowl. Some times the fuel bowls can get gummy and not crank over right away. Mine did that shiznit to me today. i WAS CHECKIN EVERYTHING. then for some reason i checked the fuel bowl and there was sledge built up on the inlet holes into the fuel regulator. Washed it out and filled it up, fired right up! good luck
