Posted this in the 73-79 forum and it was moved to the transmission forum and I still havent got a reply. A member suggested trying over here so here it goes.---I'm replacing my stock torque converter in my C6. I have a 79 F250 4x4 with a 460 and I'm running 35x12.5 tires with 4.10 gears. I would like to be able to do some mild offroading as well. What size and or brand of converter would you guys recommend? thanks in advance
Id give tci a call, they will recomend a good one for you. i checked there website then called them. They go by tire size, gear ratio, weight of the vehicle, what its used for, whats in the motor etc. Installed there breakaway converter in mine and works great.
Your missing what is probably the biggest piece of the puzzle when picking a TC, and that is the cam specs. If your tc doesn't match the cam then your losing, if it's too low of a stall the engine will bog until it gets into the power range of the cam, if too high you are building way to much heat in the tranny (very bad thing), and you just wasted the best power of the engine in building that heat.
Personally I won't run TCI junk anymore.
Well i actualy meant when i said with whats in the engine, meaning the cam really, guess i should have been more specific. And i have had 0 trouble with tci parts so far. Am using there torque converter, there valve body, and the type r servo for my c6 trans, so far so good. Hope it stays that way, never heard anything bad about them before.

/!\ This is part of the reason, I also had one that was so inefficiant that it was good for little more than super heating the tranny fluid & cooking trannies,
I wasted two good C6's before I found out the TC was no good, I sent it in to Artcarr to hve it fixed, they said that they could not get it over 60% efficiant, (emagine only getting 60% of you power to the tranny)
I also had a TCI reverse manual VB, It worked great, but it does not apply the low/reverse clutches when in first, (relies on the sprag only) this is one reason I wasted a sprag in another good c6,
After quite a bit of research I also found a lot of people not happy with their TCI trans brake valve bodies,
Now on the other hand I have heard of people having good luck with high end TCI converters & such, (I wonder if they've ever used a good converter)
Other than some minore grinding (to make fit) I am happy with my TCI aluminim trans pan,
hehe now your all making me nervous about having those parts in there lol. well guess ill just have to keep a close watch on it. So far its okay. this is on a c6 trans as well, glad i saved my old converter though just incase
