i have always wanted to do a susp. lift but don't have the money right now. also, i have just put new shocks all the way around so i would hate to throw the money away. i want to lift the truck up a bit for looks and perhaps for bigger tires later. while i agree that a susp. lift is the way to go, i have a 2wd truck so i will not be hardcore offroading. therefore, i am thinking about getting a body lift - again for looks and also because my stock body mounts are crushed. my question is should i get a 2" body lift or a 3" lift? i know this is a body lift so it will be difficult to avoid this but i don't want to be able to see between the frame and the bed of the truck that is possible with the 12" homemade body lifts. so i guess what it comes to is this:
1. will 3 inch still look pretty good or will it look cheesy?
2. is the work of installing a 3" the same as a 2". i would assume they are about the same because either way, the body is moving upwards and an inch shouldn't make that much of a difference.
again, i know a suspension lift is probably the better way to go but in my situation, i think the body lift will accomplish what i am looking for. thanks for the advice.
Personaly I am going with the 3" lift on my 68 f100.
1. will 3 inch still look pretty good or will it look cheesy? Not if you like it
2. is the work of installing a 3" the same as a 2". i would assume they are about the same because either way, the body is moving upwards and an inch shouldn't make that much of a difference.
Well that depends on the year and model of the truck. On my truck Im going to have to modify the steering columb and the fuel path. I'm removing the in cab tank but fabricating a passenger side underbody tank. The trucks a 2wd and Im using the 4wd kit because they don't make one for the 2. Depending on the model year you have the steering may not be an issue.

when i bought my 79 f150, it had a 4" BL on it and i have no problem with it, and on some things on the truck are easier to get to with it on, like you can change the starter by putting your arms through the gap. i had a 3" on a ranger once and they are not that bad of a gap, and if you get a good kit with the bumper brackets and all the other goodies (performance accessories) you could get the gap guards for it and not notice the space between it at all.
hey. i just put a 2inch on my f150. it was not to bad to do except for all the rusted bolts. being a inline 6 the lower radiator hose will hit the fan so u will have to move urs down some. i thikn if u do the 3 inch u will have to make ur own hose. for the gaps i just put black plstic inbetween and it looks good. i will try to post some pics when i get a chance
thanks for the advice. ill keep that i mind. i have not yet progressed in this stage of the truck as i have slowed down on the body work. i figured once i get it painted, ill throw the BL on. i have a little body filler work left.

You may want to do the lift first rather then risk crackng the bodywork or scratcking paint.
Sucks to have to go back and redo it which I am sure you are aware. I do my work alone and have to rely on hoists and pulleys to lift the body up. If you have a bunch of guys to help lift the parts off and on gently then forget I said anything.
hmmmmm you raise a very interesting point! i honestly did not even think of that. thanks for joining in on this post...i will see about a lift here quite soon.

well i just put my tires on last night! 33x12.50s they look amazing! but they still rub quite a bit when i turn. think im goin to have to lift the front atleast a inch or 2.
is it worth spending the money on like a 3" kit for $100 give or take....
or is it cheaper to make your own...say with 2.5" square tubing?
i have heard of both done. if the tubing saves me money AND is just as good, i am pondering doing that. let me know what you think.

I bought the 3" lift from LMC I think its Nylon blocks from Prothane. The benifit of plastic or rubber over metal is that less road noise will resinate through the body of the truck. They act like the felt pads on a drummers High-hat and help lessen the frames conducting of suspension vibration to you. thus a queter ride. If your gonna ride off road and dont really mind a noisy ride steel pipe is far stronger.and will last much longer. My trucks a Highway Hauler and I dont want to hear anything but the stereo.
