I had an interesting finding in my quest for the right settings to get the best gas mileage. I have a 2003 6.0L, 35" tires, 3" lift, Airaid intake, custom stainless steel exhaust (4" diameter with larger down pipe), and juice with attitude tuner. I used the dumb meter (in cab monitor) and a GPS to calculate MPG. When I use the juice/attitude on setting one for mileage I get a lower mileage, about 12-13 MPG in the city, 17-18 on highway. When I run constantly on setting 5, which says extreme, I get 15-16 in the city and close to 20 on the highway, sometimes more if I drive like a civilized person. It just baffles me that more pwer is getting me better gas consumption. In the past two months I have also tried defueling on shift 4 and 5 only and defuel all shifts. Defuel all shifts seem better, and low boost seems better for MPG on the highest level (also highest smoke). It all seems counterintuitive. I am a little worried about the power I am sending to the tranny, but after running consistent settings for a week, the tranny seems to learn how compensate for the new power levels. I am just wondering if I am crazy or anyone has had similar experiences and the Edge products or other tuner products. Also interested if anyone has run such a setup and seen tranny issues.
With any tuner it seems the higher levels are the best for mileage. I believe this is because it is burning more efficiently and therefore taking less time to get up to speed when under acceleration. This is because of the tuning of the fueling. Pulse width, timing, pressure etc.... There is more to this theory that I am sure someone else can elaborate on.
