I just went out and started it before we left for the evening. While walking back inside, it spuddered (like running out of gas), died, then a couple gallons of gas dumped out of the bottom of it. I walked around it for a while, pushed it out of my garage, (grabbed a waterhose) and turned it over again. It just cranked over with no start. Then I looked under the vehicle and again fuel had dumped out of the bottom. Fuel pump? Clogged line? Whats going on? P.S. just topped it off with fuel a couple hours ago, after driving about Two hours up in the mountains, not offroading...
Sound like a broken line for sure.Must of rotted through, did you notice a gas smell after fueling up? I can't imagine it just broke in the garage.Look under the truck while someone turns it over to try and narrow your search. I had a return line break on my diesel, and it just poured. What mountains are you in?
We're in the Idaho Mountains. I'm going to go check out the line as you suggested. Thanks a bunch. I'll let you know what I found. How was the weather in VA beach today?
I can't see anything under there. Fuel seeps out all over the tank. I can hear the fuel pump run, then fuel runs out heavy. Sounds like some sort of relief valve or busted line. But I can't see crap. Oh well, I tried. Takin' it in on Mon. at least it's still under Warrantee. Thanks for your help..
Warranties are good for that. The fuel pump should be in the fuel tank (top). At least it has been narrowed down to that. How far is the dealer, I'd make sure they pay for the tow. Wish it could have been simple.
If it only leaks when cranking/running, then it sounds like it the fuel delivery line (as opposed to the return line). It could be that the fitting on the fuel pump rusted out and that's what's causing the leak. Either way, it sounds like the tank has to be dropped to invesitgate it further. This is assuming that the leak is coming from on top of the tank.
Yes it is coming from the top of the tank. However, full tank of fuel + my experiences with fuel tanks in the past = takin' it to the dealer tomorrow. Still under warrantee. Thanks for your input, it's nice to know there are helpful people out there in the world of Ford lovers. Make it a great week and God Bless.
