My '06 F350 SRW V10 came with, SURPRISE, Continentals and I have found them to be pretty quiet and comfortable tires.
I have been lurking on these forums for probably 18 months, and have seen numerous posts with negative comments about the Continental tires that come standard on many SD trucks. What specifically have ya'll found to be so hateful about these tires?
My '00 F150 came with some General tires whose wet pavement grip saw me sliding through more than one stop sign. Those tires were replaced within 400 miles. They also were more square than round.
That said, what are the experiences of this forum on the Contis?
Actually, there are quite a few of us who have no problem with the Continentals, but invariably we're hiway folk. It seems to be the off-roaders with the beef...
I paid extra money for the upgrade option code to get me a set of All Terrain (AT) tires... the delivered truck had ContiTrak M&S (mud and snow) tires with an ALL Season tread pattern that absolutely sucks on colichi gravel county roads.
Yep they are a fairly decent highway tire once they are broken in. In fact I have two complete sets of them
I managed to get a refund of the Option cost by complaining that what I paid for was not delivered... and Ford agreed... in fact if you check around you can not find a legitimate All Terrain tire in 18 Inch that is also rated load range "E" at 3640 pounds per tire
I need AT tires and I need max payload... and I was forced to 18" by the King Ranch option... And I paid enough for this up graded truck that I expected the All Terrain as described to be present at delivery...can you tell I am still ticked off?
the posts are why i got mine with 17 inch and bfg at's. plus i worked for vw of a and knew how much people where haveing problems with them on the t-ag suv esp premature wear out like 15k and gone . tirerack has some goodyears and dunlop right now 1 size lower and wider, but as fred said they don't have the same load just a light load alternate.
The 17" pirellis are not much better. Why do I get street tires on a 4X4? If it was a nice 2wd DRW, and spent the time in campgrounds I could see using these tires. But, I want traction as an option. For once I wish I had a tire that would wear out in less than 10k. Then the wifey would let me by new meats. But...she looks at them sitting there, all full of tread... Little does she know, my BSEG fix. I'll wear them out....
Thanks for the replies. Mine was purchased strictly as a road vehicle. It may see a couple hundred yards of gravel as I pull into a campsite with my fiver in tow, but that is it. I will admit that I cringe at even dirt roads!
Gotta admit that years back I sure did love playing in the desert SW with my IH Scout 345ci V8! Talk about grunt!

Hey Azdrawdy,
I just got my new 06 250 4x4 with the contitrac tires also. What pressure are you running in them. My decal says 75front 80rear. The dealer had them set to 60 front and rear, and told me I only needed the higher pressures when hauling or towing. With the replacement prices so high for these size tires, i'd like to get the most out of them before getting new sneakers. Also, I called continental and they said the same thing as the decal. I tried 75 psi but it sure made it a much stiffer ride. I'm afraid I'd run the centers out of them, as i don't haul much.
I have perrelli scorpions on my 150, and also on my wifes dodge b150 van. I never had a problem with them. I agree they aren't very agressive off-road, but I don't do a whole lot of off-roading anymore.
My 06 also came with the Conti's....it a 4x2 with limited slip and a six speed. I was afraid they would suck, but seem p[retty good. I was impressed in the rain that they did not spin very much as I had anticipated...don't know about wear yet, as I have less than 1000 miles on the truck...
I have the Conti M&S tires and I use the truck mostly for driving to work or towing a 8K travel Trailer. (want to get a 5th Wheel eventually!!) They are a good hiway tire. I have noticed that they do not like wet grass, snow or sand, but the 4X4 will cover for them. I have not had the out of round / balance issues that some people complained about early on. I have had much worse tires in the past. The original tires on my 1983 S10 Blazer were Generals. The were always going flat after hitting something rather minor.
scout 1 or 2 .i had a 2 with a nissan turbo diesel in it talk about grunt.
1974 IH Scout II. I bought door panels for a SS Scout II so my truck had step-through doors. I also made a bikini top for it and removed the top. Put a roll bar on'er. Looked cool as heck!
Living in Arizona back then, I didn't have much fear of rain!
HOWEVER, a bunch of guys like to pee-pee and moan about gas mileage on our V10s. HAHA!!!! I never saw better than 5mpg on my Scout!
Like Fred I had to go 18s to get my 11200 GVWR which I need to haul my Fiver.
I also ordered the FX4 pkg which was supposed to get me an AT tire.
The truck showed up with the all season Contis and with the info I had from Fred I got my 370 Canadian dollars refunded and I got lucky and got a set of round Contis and these things have turned out to be the best tires I ever got for nothing.
