Sure, I look at people's post count. But I also look at their join date. If someone joins in March, and has over 200-300 posts in their first month, with 5% of them having any helpful information....I label them as a post *****.
If a person has been here 6 months or so, and only has 100 posts with 90 of them being helpful...they are the ones I will be willing to listen to if I have a problem or need advice.
I remember when I first started looking at this site a few years ago and saw the same 5 or 6 guys would give 1 or 2 word relies to nearly every thread. They said "Yeah" or "Right" or anything to waste space. It was soon after that that the moderators started cracking down on it. But it was those same guys who had a ton of posts. I like to see my count go up but I don't live and die by it and I certainly won't post a reply just to get my count up.
Post count means nothing. Its not as if its "cool points" or "respect points". Someone could come on here and post to everything they possibly could and post a lot of BS, but that wouldnt mean they know what they are talking about.
When you reach a milestone like 296 posts like me you'll all understand how important the post count is!
LOL JUST KIDDING...
I don't look at numbers so much, mainly since mine is so low, but I do look around to see who is ALWAYS posting. I don't think that a high post count is an indicator of knowledge but certainly of participation. And I may be wrong but if no one posted anything it would be kind of boring
Honestly my automotive skills are comparable to Barney Fife's policing skills. I have leared a lot visiting the "Tech" type forums and threads but most of my posts fall into the non-automotive and Club FTE forums. I work a lot and enjoy interacting with someone other then bad guys for a change.
It definitely means different things to different people. Some folks seem to just post a little every now and again, I've seen folks I thought were newbies by their post counts and then I look at their join date and see they've been here longer than I have.
dang, a thread started cuz of a comment i made, i dont think post counts mean that much, but if many of the posts are tech it can show a person has alot of knowledge....basically i agree with monster
Yeah. I hear ya.
Oh man is that 100!! WoooHooo!!! Dude I am the man!!A posting God!!! Its my birthday, Its my birthday, It's my birthday!!
I'd just like to thank all those people that have helped me get to this point in my career here on FTE. You really love me. sniff, sniff. (and the crowd goes crazy!)ROARRRR.
In the grand scheme of things...? Nothing, really. Refer to my earlier post on the subject, post #10. I don't really have much to add to that. Eventually another mod will chime in to give you their perspective, I'm sure.
A lot of good points made by other users so far, that moderator tag by my name doesn't make my opinion any more valid than any one else's.
Hummm... makes me feel dumb.... Been here going on 1500 days and only 200 posts.
How can people AVERAGE over 5 posts a day EVERY DAY for a year or more????????
