installed blue cps today

I found an IH dealer a couple towns over and picked up the blue cps for just under 99 bucks. Installation was as easy as it looked and the truck fired right up. It ran great before I swapped but I wanted to try the "improved" cps anyway.

At first it seemed to idle just a hair smoother and quieter. The jury's till out on that. I only let it idle for a few minutes before I took off. It may have taken some of the edge off the injector rattle in the 1600-2000 range, it's hard to tell. It seems quieter by just a bit but I'm not positive. I can hear more cackle now when idling. Not sure if the blue cps is any better than the stock cps. I only took a short ride so we'll see how it is next chance I get to put a few miles on it.

Whether it turns out to be beter or not, at least I now have a spare cps in my glovebox.

Just make sure you tell Jody Tipton of DP-Tuner (Tuners and chips) u have the blue CPS in case you go with his tunes. He's the man for a 7.3L tune.

Good point, thanks. One of his flip chips is in my near future. I need to get on the ball and stop wasting my money on rent and food and blow some dough on PMS. I almost did the 10K mod the other night because it's so cheap and available, but that little voice inside my head kept saying "get the guages first dummy or you'll be sorry". For once I listened.

Well, it's been a week now and I'm still iffy about the blue cps. I may swap the black one back in. It doesn't really seem quieter and the idle seems more lopy now. I don't remember the truck vibrating this much while in park. I also can really hear the cackle now. maybe this blue one quieted something else down to allow the cackle to be better heard? Maybe it's my imagination, but I have to see if there's a difference so the black one goes back in.

this topic has been beat to death. i am sticking with the black, since the blue one failed on me. the company i got it from sent me a replacement and it rides in the glove box. hell, does anyone want to trade a new black one for that new blue one I have got?

Chris-
Swap it and keep the blue as a spare, or you can purchase any number of larger trucks with a DT-466 Int. engine and put it in one of them, as that is where the blue belongs. I ran the blue for a full week now and am convinced the noise reduction at low rpm is a result of fuel being introduced late with a resulting decrease in performance and slight reduction in mpg. I will add however, this is THE most unscientific experiment I have ever been involved with and my observations might be totally wrong....... nah.

No, but thanks for reminding me - my brother borrowed my spare when his Excursion died, and he never returned it. Need to make a phone call and get it back.
