i have a 1977 f250 with a standard np 435 transmission where i noticed cant shift the gears.....then i found out that there are little plastic shoes that go on the forks that hold the forks onto the rings inside the transmission.....which are IMPOSSIBLE to find... anyone remotely know what im talkin about? and where i can find these?
I know JBG has them in 3 variations of their rebuild kit, but I've never had to shop around the inserts individually. I'm assuming you've tried all sorts of auto parts stores. JBG has has a tower rebuild kit for $15.00. Which includes:
-Interlock Pin
-Reverse switch gasket
-Reverse fork clip
-Springs
-Detent Ball
-Freeze plug set
-Roll pin set
and the very important
-Shift Fork Inserts

It sounds like your parts man at your dealer was lazy, or extremely buzy if they told you that. IMO.
You will be surprised what the Ford dealer has on hand for reference materials to help you out. They should at least tell you the part is obsolete by looking it up. My dealer even has a complete library in the service department full of reference and service manuals that go back to the 50's.
The parts man at my dealer is very friendly with me, and will take hours sometimes to help me out. My grandfather was friends with the owner, and I made several friends at the parts counter, so that may help as well.
