Well I am wanting to put a newer EFI 302 and AOD with a transfer case in my 72' 4x4 shortbed, I pulled out the 360 and New Process 4-speed and dana 21 transfer case, I want a good daily driver with somewhat good gas miliage, if any one has done this or knows what i need please share some info, thanks
You're on the right track. I'm not too familier with the 4wd's but that setup is my favorite in the '65-'79 trucks. I wouldn't do extreme heavy duty towing day after day with it, but for daily drivability it will give you exactly what you are looking for. I would go with 3:50 or 3:73(three seventy three) gears. Those gears will give good power and mileage.
I am in the middle of this project. I bought and rebuilt an 86 302 from a mercury couger, the AOD is from an 84 lincon town car. If you are going to do this realize that it takes alot of time and even more money. I am doing the swap in a 72 ranger xlt. The engine swap was rather simple as a 302 was offered then. I had a 360 before. I guess the most important thing you should know do do this is to buy the whole doner car. I didn't and I have had to make my own wiring harness 41 wires, and a lot of other stuff. I you would like to know more e-mail me at krazdndenver(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
